Olds Elevator Vertical Conveying
Olds Elevator Vertical Conveying for Material Handling of Bulk Powders and Solids
Vertical Conveying of Bulk Powders and Solids Using a Stationary Screw Conveyor or Vertical Auger

Almost like magic, your material or product enters the OLDS ELEVATOR™ Vertical Bulk Material Conveyor and seconds later exits the top clean and intact - without generating dust, without noisy buckets or compressors! You can elevate granular material, spherical particles, as well as many powders. It is particularly well suited to handle dense and abrasive materials.
There are no bearings in the product zone, so your material is protected from machine grease and contamination. The OLDS ELEVATOR™ utilizes a rotating casing around a fixed screw. Intake scoops at the bottom of the casing feed material into the elevator where it quietly, and gently, climbs the static screw, and that's just the start, because the OLDS ELEVATOR™ Vertical Conveyor brings process and economic benefits never before seen in the bulk materials handling equipment market.

Olds Elevator Operation Design

The core operating principle of the Olds Elevator is remarkably simple, yet it represents a groundbreaking approach that opens up new possibilities in bulk material handling.
Its innovative design features only one moving part in contact with the bulk material: a rotating tubular casing with integrated in-feed scoops, which spins around a stationary screw. A key design aspect is the generous clearance between the static screw and the rotating casing—this minimizes material damage, reduces wear on the casing, and eliminates metal-on-metal contact.
As the casing rotates, the elevator self-feeds material at a controlled rate. The in-feed scoops are typically submerged in bulk material within the feed hopper. Friction between the material and the inner wall of the casing induces rotation of the material, which in turn causes the product resting on the screw flights to be gently conveyed upward along the inclined screw surface.
The system enables full-bore material flow, preventing backflow or "leakage" through the annular clearance. This not only enhances transport efficiency but also helps maintain the central alignment of the stationary screw, preventing contact with the casing. This behavior is in stark contrast to conventional screw elevators, where rotating screws often induce unwanted material leakage and instability.
Transport efficiency is further improved due to reduced slip between the material and the screw flight surface—significantly lower than in traditional vertical screw conveyors.
Innovative, Minimalist Design
- Only one moving part contacts the material: A rotating tubular casing with in-feed scoops.
- This casing spins around a stationary screw.
- Generous clearance between screw and casing: Prevents material damage; Reduces wear; Eliminates metal-on-metal contact
Self-Feeding & Controlled Flow
- As the casing rotates, the elevator self-feeds.
- In-feed scoops are submerged in material inside the hopper.
- Friction with the casing wall causes the bulk material to rotate.
- This rotation gently lifts product along the screw's inclined surface.
