As the material enters the drum, it is put in contact with the drum shell, which continuously rotates around a fixed magnet. Non-ferrous material glides off the shell and into the clean product outlet. Ferrous material is captured by the fixed magnet, and held to the shell until it is rotated out of the range of the magnetic field, where it is dropped into a waste collection bin or other configuration.
