Bulk bag dischargers are typically implemented when capacity requirements dictate a change from 50 lb. bags to save labor costs and to minimize dust.  The most crucial aspect in providing you with a successful unloader is understanding the bulk bag(s) to be used, your goals and concerns.  Many suppliers overlook the actual bag and dive into offering you their standard unloader – the “one size fits all” mentality.  Bag items of concern include: Dimensions; Lined or Unlined; Loose Liner, Tabbed Liner or Glued Liner Flat Bottom or Cone Bottom; Single Trip or Multi-Trip; Bag Outlet Spout Dimensions; Bag coatings, etc.

General Customer Goals

  • Dust Free Bulk Bag Unloading.
  • Unload your densified product reliably.
  • Total Bag Discharging
  • Minimal moving parts/ Minimal maintenance.

The key component - minimizing dust - can be a difficult task,
although today’s technology makes this possible.

Paddle agitation or vibration.  Up front this seems like a simple answer – who wants to vibrate (pack) a cohesive product further?  Paddle agitation seems to be the logical answer.  The real answer lies in understanding both technologies.

Pulsed Vibration
Pulsed vibration is the key to successful bag discharging. When the bag is placed in the unloader, the bottom is generally “rock hard”.  At this stage the operator manually actuates the vibratory, which transmits vertical vibrations, to the bag which shapes it to the bag platform, generally 60-degrees.  This step shapes the bag and allows for easy access to the bulk bag outlet spout.

During discharging vibration can be required. If so, this is pulsed On and Off to keep a standing head of product in the outlet spout.  The vibrator never runs continuously.  Vibration isolation mounts are used to absorb the vibration and ensure it is transmitted to the product only.
